RDAP-first lookups
Queries authoritative registry and registrar RDAP servers via the IANA bootstrap, returning structured JSON instead of legacy port-43 WHOIS text.
RDAP-powered registrar, date, nameserver, contact, and health-score data in one dashboard, built for buyers, sellers, and operators.
Tool coverage
Each lookup starts with RDAP through the IANA bootstrap, enriches linked registrar records, then adds health scoring and investment signals for buyers, sellers, and operators.
Queries authoritative registry and registrar RDAP servers via the IANA bootstrap, returning structured JSON instead of legacy port-43 WHOIS text.
Supplemental coverage for .co, .de, .ch, .io, .us, and other country-code extensions.
When standard paths are limited, GoatAcquisition's extended partner coverage retrieves registration details for major ccTLDs and specialty extensions.
Generic, brand, sponsored, and country-code TLDs in one unified lookup experience.

Who owns it and who manages it
Core registration facts: registrar name, registry ID, domain age, and time until expiration. Confirm the domain is registered and who holds it.
The company managing the domain for transfers, renewals, and abuse reports. Look for the accredited registrar badge.
Tenure, expiration, and stability
Combines age, expiration runway, nameservers, and status flags. 80+ is strong stability; below 40 suggests elevated risk.
Creation, update, and expiration dates. Tenure supports SEO trust; expiration drives renewal risk and negotiation timing.
Status flags and DNS infrastructure
Registry flags like transfer prohibited or redemption period. Locks are normal; hold or pending delete signals risk.
Authoritative nameservers show if DNS is live. Zero nameservers may mean parked, dropped, or misconfigured.
Contacts and investment signals
Registrar, Registrant, Admin, Technical, Billing, and Abuse. Privacy often hides owner data; abuse contacts may remain public.
Risk level and investment signal summarize tenure, expiration, DNS, and status. Read the bullets for the reasoning behind each rating.
Best practices
Follow this workflow when evaluating a domain for purchase, sale, portfolio review, or acquisition outreach.
If you see “Available for purchase,” the name may be unregistered. A full dashboard means the domain is registered. Continue due diligence.
Prioritize healthy scores and long expiration runway. Names expiring within 90 days may face renewal pressure or drop risk.
Confirm nameservers are active and no hold or redemption flags. Parked domains are often easier to acquire than active businesses.
Use abuse or registrar contacts when privacy hides the owner. Pair with broker-led outreach for acquisition.
Estimate market value, brandability, and buy/hold/sell signals before you make an offer on the same domain.
For off-market or blocked-contact names, submit an acquisition request for confidential outreach and Escrow.com closings.
Support
WHOIS lookup shows who owns a domain, when it was registered, when it expires, which registrar holds it, and how DNS is configured. GoatAcquisition's free tool gathers that information in one dashboard so buyers, sellers, and operators can research any domain quickly.
Primary lookups use RDAP (Registration Data Access Protocol), the modern ICANN-standard replacement for legacy text WHOIS. RDAP returns structured JSON from authoritative registry and registrar servers via the IANA bootstrap, with standardized entity roles, status flags, and related links for richer contact data. Legacy port-43 WHOIS is used only as a fallback for TLDs that do not yet publish RDAP.
Legacy WHOIS was built as unstructured plain text on port 43. Formats differ by registrar, fields are hard to parse reliably, and privacy redaction is inconsistent. RDAP uses a single JSON schema, points to the correct authoritative server for each TLD, separates registrant/admin/abuse roles clearly, and supports linked records so we can merge registrar contact details when the domain object is redacted. That is why our dashboard is more accurate than old WHOIS scrapers still used by many free tools.
Anyone evaluating a domain before a purchase or sale: startup founders checking a brand name, investors reviewing portfolio assets, brokers doing due diligence, or owners monitoring expiration dates and registrar status.
The health score (0–100) combines domain age, expiration runway, nameserver count, and registry status flags. Higher scores indicate a stable, well-maintained registration. Scores below 40 often reflect expiration risk, hold status, or missing DNS configuration.
Investment insights translate registration data into risk level (Low, Medium, High) and an investment signal (Strong, Neutral, Weak). They highlight expiration pressure, tenure, DNS activity, and status risks. Use them as a quick filter, not a substitute for professional valuation.
Many registrars and registries redact registrant, admin, and technical contacts for privacy (GDPR, WHOIS privacy services, or registry policy). Abuse contacts are often still published. When owner details are hidden, professional acquisition outreach may be required.
No registration record was found for that domain name. It likely is not registered and may be available through a registrar. Always confirm with a registrar before paying, since propagation delays or certain TLD policies can occasionally affect publication timing.
The tool supports 1,200+ TLDs through GoatAcquisition's partner intelligence network, including most gTLDs and new extensions plus major ccTLDs (.co.de.ch.io.us, and others). Extended partner coverage fills in when standard lookup paths are limited.
Yes. The domain intelligence dashboard is free with no account required. Use it for domain research, expiration monitoring, DNS verification, and pre-acquisition analysis.
Data is fetched live at lookup time through RDAP (with legacy WHOIS fallback only where RDAP is unavailable). Privacy services may hide contact fields. For acquisition decisions, confirm critical dates and ownership with professional research.
Why it matters
Free WHOIS lookup helps buyers, sellers, and operators understand a domain before making decisions. Our tool is RDAP-first: it queries authoritative registry and registrar endpoints through the IANA RDAP bootstrap, not outdated text-based WHOIS scrapers.
Beyond raw records, GoatAcquisition computes domain age, expiration runway, DNS coverage, health scores, and investment signals. When privacy shields registrant data, our acquisition service goes further with confidential outreach and Escrow.com-secured closings.
